Dr. Marcus Hudson White, a descendant of Mayflower William White, was a pioneer doctor, born 1843 in Lynn County Iowa. After serving in the American Civil War, he moved to the Dakota Territory, and then to Oregon. By 1885, he lived in Canby Oregon. He then moved to Portland Oregon. During the early 1900’s he relocated from Portland’s City Center to Grand Ave., then to NE Hoyt Street. His property is now under the Providence Medical Center complex. There, in addition to practicing medicine, and making his own medications, he dug a deep well and provided water to the residents of that area, sold chickens, played the violin, and started his own political “Everybody’s Party”. As it can be seen, his interests were varied. Many of his writings, and detailed account books have survived. Dr. Marcus H White left behind a glimpse into the life and time of our past as well as insightful comments that are relevant today. His collection is now being digitized. The old pictures used in this website are from the MH White History Collection.

Dr. M. H. White descended from William White of the 1620 ship Mayflower.
"Doc" Marcus H. White, became a family genealogist as a result of letters from his "Cousin" Helen H. W. Felch. How "Doc" and "Cousin" Helen identified the wrong lineage to ship Mayflower's William White, is a story. So much so that it inspired the title of Doc's grand-daughter's book: Life In Time, Lost Line of Mayflower William White, from the eyes of a descendant... As it turns out, Doc & "Cousin" Helen missed some amazing generations. more
