Rozanne’s Childhood:
I was born in Portland, Oregon as were my parents.  I was plopped on the beach by the time I was 6 weeks old.  Taken out of school for 2 weeks every Oct. in order to go camping in “the deep woods.”  Fell in love with ballet at age 3, began classes age 5, and have danced ever since.

Rozanne's Education:
Mom stuck a spoon in my hand, then a paint brush, then fork & knife. Other crafts soon followed.  Pop taught me to use a screw driver and saw when I was 3 years old. .In high school Imost of my time was in art, photo & drama classes. BS from PSU majoring in psychology; Master Therapeutic Recreation Admin. UNC Chapel Hill.  Post grad intensives in Therapy (ARC); Adult Education, Finance (ECU); Tony Jackson Management Training (PCMH), & Therapeutic Recreation Management (UNC & Univ. of Maryland).

100 Ballet's Magic Wand
I used vintage practice footage to describe how I felt when I began ballet.   As an awkward, clumsy, knock kneed ,pigeon toed, little girl, I wished for a magic wand.

101 Ballet is Illusion
Clips from vintage video show the effort hidden in the illusion of light & dainty.  (Ballet is not “hard work.”  It’s focused effort, time after time.). They say you are not a Pro until you’ve fallen before a full house.  I included the clip that proves I’m a pro.  Worse:  I failed to recover for it took me by surprise.  I should have rolled around and posed before getting up and no one would have noticed my blooper.

102 All Ballet Steps in just 2 minutess.
All dancers love to do the tricky stuff, but when the tricky stuff fails to work right, the problem is not in the tricky stuff.  The problem is in the basics hidden in the tricky stuff.  Vintage video.  My partner is Frank Puccia.  He started ballet, as an adult, hoping to improve his ice skating.  This was his 1st ballet performance after just 4 years of classes with Maria Dare.

103 Plie & Turnout
Plie, Plie, Plie!  When shouting “Plie” failed to get results with my students, I choreographed my frustration into a dance.  Vintage video from that dance.  I also did a short solo as part of a contest, asking the audience to count the number of plies in it.  The one closest to the correct number of plies was the winner.
Video also explains why turnout must be taken from the hips, not knees ankles, or feet, and a simple way to improve turnout.

104 Tendu, a simple step
Tendu, also known as tendue and tendus, is simple but a challenge for beginners to perform correctly.  The word means “stretched.”

106 Turn Basics

107 How to Jump
Miss Renoux taught me to jump.  Serge Dare’s combinations taught me control and inspired me to jump ever higher. VIEW

108 Don't Ouch Yourself, landing from a jump.
Yep.  I ate a lot of eggs the week I filmed this video. I had a lot of fun making it.  Hope you enjoy watching it and catch my point.
